Homoeopathic Treatment of Acne


Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads or pimples, and usually appears on the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders. Acne is most common among teenagers, though it affects people of all ages.



Cause

1. Genetic
Acne shows great genetic inheritance. Twins and first degree relative shows strong inherited nature of Acne.


2. Hormonal
Hormonal changes occurs during menstrual cycle and puberty may contribute in formation of Acne.


3. Infections
Cutibacterium acnes contributes to the development of acne.


4. Diet 
High glycemic load diet have different degrees of effect on severity of acne.


5. Stress
Stress causes and worsen the acne.


6. Other
Several medications like lithium, hydantoin, isoniazid, glucocorticoid, iodides, bromides, and testosterone can worsen pre-existing acne. 




Symptoms

1. Whiteheads (closed plugged pores).

2.Blackheads (open plugged pores).

3.Small red, tender bumps (papules).

4.Pimples (pustules), which are papules with pus at their tips.

5.Large, solid, painful lumps beneath the surface of the skin (nodules).

6.Painful, pus-filled lumps beneath the surface of the skin (cystic lesions).


Diagnosis

Diagnosis of acne is on clinical basis. 



Homoeopathic Treatment of Acne

In Homoeopathy treatment is based on the individualization. We can not give medicine on the basis of diagnosis. But in clinical practice it is found that there are certain medicine which is used for particular diagnosis. This is known as therapeutic practice. Here are some medicine which are frequently used in Acne.




1. Carbo veg.:
Acne in young people. Simple and recent acne. Acne simplex with cachexia. Acne associate with gastric derangement. Paleness of face. Adapted to cachexia person whose vitality become weakened and exhausted. Complain < by warmth and > by cold.

2. Belladonna :
Acne simplex with menstrual irregularities. Acne with pregnancy. Redness of face. Acne in plethoric person. Adapted to person who are lively and entertaining, when well but violent when sick. Smarting pain. Complain < by touch.

3. Pulsatilla :
Acne of puberty often calling for pulsatilla. Paleness is present in person. Itching < when heated. Adapted to person of phlegmatic temperament. Weeping disposition characterized this medicine. 

4. Kali brom.
Acne of face, pustules. Acne in fleshy young people, with coarse habits; bluish, red pustules on face, chest and shoulder. Itching worse on chest, shoulder and face. Adapted to large person inclined to obesity. Acne simplex with sexual excess.

5. Bellis per.
Acne in females usually associated with irregularities of menstrual cycle. Acne from cold drinks. Acne < by touch or by cold drinks.

6. Sulphur
Acne like eruption and pustules. Dry, unhealthy skin. Intense itching < by scratching. Adapted to person of scrofulous diathesis, subject to venous congestion. Skin is sensitive to atmospheric changes.

7. Hepar sulph.
Papular eruptions which prone to suppurate and extend. Acne in youth. Suppurate with prickly pain. Easily bleed. Unhealthy skin. Adapted to person with light hair and complexion, slow to act, muscles soft and flabby.

8. Antim crud.
Pimples, vesicles and pustules. Scaly, pustular eruption with burning and itching worse at night. Sensitive to cold bathing. For the young people who inclined to grow fat.
